Hi!
Some dancers impress you.
Other dancers make you breathe out, relax and feel that you can actually be yourself.
If someone manages both, keep them.
Feeling safe with somebody is not only about whether they are “nice.” It is something we can actively practise and think about.
In a lot of dance spaces around the world, not everyone is safe to be themselves. If you’re reading this and you’ve ever felt this, you’re not alone. A lot of people have gone through difficult situations in dance spaces, it is one of the reasons Rolerotation was born, to provide material, learning opportunities and spaces where we can all be ourselves safely.
MINDSET RESET
Safety in dance is not something you either have or don’t have. It should be a given.
SUMMER QUEST: MISSION 3 OF 10
During one social dance, invite someone outside your usual circle to try both roles with you! Or simply the other role.
Invite open conversations about it. A lot of time people have never tried both roles before so it can be scary the first times: lead by example.
□ Mission completed
Current possible score: 3/10

Learning another role does not erase everything you already know. It gives you information you cannot get by always experiencing the dance from the same position.
Already inside the Academy? Choose one class from the Dance Tips Series and watch it with one question in mind: “How would this feel from the other role?”
New here? You can start with the role you already know and expand from there.
And because this week is about dancing beyond your usual circle, this had to be the piece:
This week’s piece says something we want to see much more often on dance floors: It’s a promise, but also a responsibility.
Next sUNDAY: why styling never belonged to one role.
See you then,
Don’t forget to post your dancing rolerotation videos on social media and collab with all the Rolerotation pages around the world!
RoleRotation is something we learn, live and make visible together.
