In the decade of 2010, Felipe y Tiago, explored deeper into the concept that there could be a new way of dancing bachata and other social dances. In most social dances there exist two well-defined roles, that of the Leader (the person who leads, until then typically a man) and that of the Follower (the person who follows the commands of the leader, until then, typicially a woman). If only one person leads the dance during a complete song, that person is imposing his ideas to the follower, partner dancing becomes an interrogation. The innovative concept of RoleRotation allows both people to exchange ideas and rotate the leading between them to transform the dance into a more dynamic, equal and interesting conversation and spreads the awareness that any person, regardless of gender, sex, identity or sexual orientation can learn both roles, leading and following and be free to choose who to dance with free of prejudices.
Traditionally, it has been thought that in general, men leads the dance, but Felipe y Tiago claim and prove that social dances, popular today around the world, have to evolve with society. They fight with their activism to prove that roles are not divided anymore by genders as in the previous century (a man would lead and a woman would follow the commands) but rather they can be chosen and stopped from being divided by gender. Felipe y Tiago fight hard to promote new professional and amateur couples of all genders and combinations are created every day, a woman can lead, a man can follow, and they can do RoleRotation, looking for a more respectful dance where the use of power, leading and commands is egalitarian throughout the whole dance.
There were many people dancing both roles aroud the globe before 2019 but it was often seen as something out of the norm and not standardized. Felipe y Tiago managed to bring together the world of dancers who did both roles together under a common name world wide: Rolerotation.
They have spread the concept in all continents and over 41 different countries and growing. The Rolerotation social activist movement of Felipe & Tiago is breaking boundaries, taking down stereotypes and spreading throughout all social dances. Promoting respect, freedom, inclusivity and equality for all dancers.
