📄 Summary: This study examines the impact of “Role Rotation” in partner dances, a phenomenon initiated by Bachata dancers Felipe and Tiago, which consists of exchanging the roles of leader and follower at least once during the dance. The objective is to identify the factors that motivate Bachata dancers to adopt this practice by analyzing variables such as gender identity, sexual orientation, and individual experiences. Using a survey-based questionnaire method, the results show that despite traditional gender stereotypes associated with partner dancing, there is a growing trend towards embracing less conventional approaches since the emergence of “Role Rotation.” This research highlights the importance of promoting greater inclusivity in the field of social dancing.

📄 Summary: The choice of my research thesis topic focused on social dances through the lens of gender to understand sexism and gender dynamics today. Having practiced dance for ten years and social dances for six, I have often questioned the roles of men and women in society. During dance events, I observed sexist behavior, both verbal and physical, from both genders. I needed to understand where this originated from.
As a result, I conducted my Master’s 1 thesis on “The Role and Influence of Social Dances in the Liberation of Bodies and the Emancipation of Dancers in France (1920 to the Present Day).”
