We need to clear something up.
Learning both roles does not mean you must rotate roles during every song for the rest of your life.
You’re allowed to learn something simply because it makes you a more informed dancer.
Experiencing another role can help you understand:
Preparation: You begin to feel how much information someone needs before a movement can happen comfortably.
Timing: You experience the same moment from the opposite side of the conversation.
Clarity: You discover which ideas are genuinely readable and which ones only make sense inside your own head.
Possibilities: You stop seeing the dance as one fixed route and start noticing more available choices.
You might eventually rotate roles. You might dance entire songs in either role. You might mainly use one role and carry the knowledge of the other with you.
All of those are valid outcomes.
MINDSET RESET
Being a beginner again does not remove your experience. It expands it. Let go of your ego and you’ll evolve ten times faster.

Dance or practise one complete song in your less familiar role.
No rotating. No switching. No complicated combinations. Keep it simple enough that you can actually listen to the music and notice what the role feels like.
